Hawkesbury River Tours: Berowra Waters Holidays conducts the ultimate in river cruises around the Berowra Waters area. This experience will provide memories for a lifetime. Meandering down the Hawkesbury River aboard what is known as “a barbecue boat” provides a truly Australian experience. The Hawkesbury River (one hour from Sydney) remains in its natural state as a national park for everyone to enjoy; most of it is still the same as it was 228 years ago when white man first arrived in 1788. Highlights
Visitors embark their vessel at the Public wharf and the tour begins. Dropping into A Chef Secrets to pick up a great cup of coffee or tea, we then cruise past Dusthole Point and through Calabash Estate where there are a few famous Aussies living in seclusion. We duck into Calabash Bay to view stunning sandstone formations, mangroves and beautiful flora. This will be followed by a National park area where there is nothing but nature, pointing out Aboriginal middens and rock carvings. Then on to Collingridge Point, named after George Collingridge who was one of the first white men to have settled here with his wife Lucy.
Traveling past Coba, no power or water supplied to this isolated stretch of houses, we head to Bar Island which has a whole lot of history, ruins and middens, the remains of the Dharug tribal riverside. Aborigines moved into the Hawkesbury area about 30,000 years ago but the population numbers didn’t really develop much until about 4,000 years ago. There are aboriginal middens all along these river – old piles of oyster shells, ash from fires.
Next is your Aussie barbecue lunch so we land on an isolated beach or have it on board the BBQ Boat. We will light up the barbecue and start cooking lamb cutlets and sausages in the true Aussie way complete with a selection of salads and rolls. Here you will surrounded by natural bushland and the mighty Hawkesbury River way, a truly peaceful experience.
While lunch is being prepared you have the option to drop in a line and try your luck to catch a bream or flathead. Lunch will be served with a glass of Australian wine and beer followed by fruit and cheese making it almost impossible to leave.
We will start our journey home at about 2pm in order to be back at the Public wharf by 3.30pm. Complimentary beverages coke, lemonade, spring water, mineral water, Australian beers and best quality red and white wines.
